Kia Rio surprise at business awards

The awards were announced yesterday by Business Car Manager having been chosen by a panel of road testers and judges from the online publication and website who chose the best cars from nine different categories.

In the Best Sub-100g/km Business Car category, it was the Kia Rio 1.1-litre EcoDynamics model that claimed the title.

The new Kia Rio was updated towards the end of 2011 and has been at Kia UK dealerships since then with prices starting from less than £10,000.

Its updated, and more frugal engine line-up, was introduced at launch and offers improved CO2 emissions and fuel economy figures courtesy of the Korean manufacturer’s EcoDynamics eco-signature.

With the new 74bhp, 1.1-litre engine and its EcoDynamics technology, the stylish supermini emits a brilliant 85g/km in CO2 emissions and returns an impressive 88.3mpg on the three-door model; enough for it to beat off stiff competition in the smallest bodystyle category at the awards.

As well as topping a category based on low emissions and its benefits to business user choosers, the Kia Rio has also won a design award recently, capping off a good start to the year for the stylish supermini.

In one of the more hotly contested categories, the new Ford Focus, with the blue oval brand’s recently launched 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, claimed the Best Company Car award.

Available at Ford UK dealerships since February, the new 1.0-litre petrol engine comes with outputs of 99bhp and 123bhp. Despite the headline 109g/km CO2 emissions and 58.9mpg fuel economy figure of the less powerful unit, it was the 123bhp unit that triumphed at the awards ceremony.

Since its arrival at Land Rover UK dealerships late in 2011, the Range Rover Evoque has collected an impressive amount of awards so much so that an awards ceremony wouldn’t be an awards ceremony without the Evoque getting some sort of mention.

The Business Car Awards fell into line by picking the baby-Range Rover SD4 as its choice of motor in the ‘It’s My Business and I’ll Buy What I Want To’ category, beating the Porsche Panamera and the Audi Q5 to the title in a top four dominated by SUVs.

The Range Rover Evoque is on sale now with prices starting from £27,995 in the UK.
