The new large family car will cost £31,450 in the UK and will be road tax-free thanks to its use of both electric and diesel power.
CO2 emissions of 95g/km is usually a level seen on smaller cars but the new Peugeot 508 saloon Hybrid4 also offers 78.5mpg – a figure higher than most superminis on sale in the UK today.
Remarkably, the Peugeot 508 saloon Hybrid4 comes with 200bhp and four-wheel drive as well because it matches a 37bhp electric motor driving the rear wheels with a 2.0-litre 163bhp diesel to drive the front wheels.
This means the car is capable of a top speed of 130mph and a 0-62mph sprint time of nine seconds.
The Peugeot 508 saloon Hybrid4 is only the third car ever to use a diesel-hybrid engine setup after the 3008 and new Citroen DS5. Most other hybrid cars on the road use a petrol engine, whose CO2 emissions and fuel economy is usually worse than a similar-size diesel.
However, despite the rare engine technology, it is based on higher specification Peugeot 508 saloon models. Standard equipment includes sat-nav, Bluetooth, air conditioning and half leather seats.
It also offers 18″ alloy wheels, automatic headlamps and technology such as Peugeot’s SOS assistance, which contacts the emergency services in the event of an accident.
Phil Robson, Fleet and Used Car Director, at Peugeot UK, is understandably excited by the new car, stating: “Never until now has there been a choice of cars that comprehensively ticks so many boxes.”
The new Peugeot 508 saloon Hybrid4 is available in a single trim level and prices are set at £31,450 at UK Peugeot dealerships.
