The city car was only launched in 2008 but used Fiat 500 cars are already proving popular on the used car market, according to AM.
Jeremy Bennett, editor of AM, said: “Single handedly re-invigorating the Fiat brand since its introduction to the market in 2008, the popularity of the Fiat 500 has not waned, enjoying massive popularity on the used market.”
He said the three-door city car, which bases its design on the classic 1950s Fiat 500, is a popular used car because of its ‘cute looks’ and strong residual values.
Strong residual values mean the car will cost a little more than other used small cars but it also means buyers will be comfortable in the knowledge it will keep its value for longer when it comes to replace it.
The popularity of used Fiat 500 means a used Fiat 500 deal is difficult to find as models are bought quickly after appearing at used Fiat 500 dealerships.
Bennett added: “Demand for the car is still strong, ensuring 500s only share brief encounters with dealer forecourts before being whisked away to customers looking for fun in a cute and funky little package.”
Used Fiat 500 prices are in the region of £5,000 after three years, according to AM, whose awards honour the best cars, manufacturers and dealerships in the UK.
The £5,000 price is around half that of the entry-level new Fiat 500, the £10,000 Fiat 500 Pop fitted with a 1.2-litre petrol engine.
A smaller petrol, the ground-breaking two-cylinder TwinAir engine, is also available with the Fiat 500 along with a larger, 1.4-litre petrol and a single 1.3-litre diesel.
The Fiat 500 is on sale now as a used car or to buy new.
