Fiat has revealed a new Ducato van designed specifically for motor home owners, it has revealed.
The Fiat Ducato motor home chassis has a revamped interior designed for comfort, says Fiat, and some new engines to keep it in line with European emissions laws.
The older ‘Euro 4’ diesel engines available on Fiat’s largest van were due to be scrapped across Europe and Fiat has responded by replacing them with three new diesel engines meeting the new Euro 5 emissions criteria.
This means the new 2.3-litre engine (in two power outputs) and the new 3.0-litre diesel all deliver lower running costs than the outgoing units.
They are based on Fiat’s MultiJet engine range, a former International Engine of the Year winner, and as a result cut emissions and boost economy by 15 per cent, according to Fiat.
The new Fiat Ducato chassis cab model designed for use as a motor home comes with an extended wheelbase and a new ‘Comfort-Matic’ gearbox.
The new Fiat Ducato van also gets a new traction control system to improve grip and daytime running lights.
Inside, it gets a new faux-wooden trim, new seat and dashboard materials and even swivelling seats for the driver and passenger.
There is a new sound system, space for TomTom satellite navigation and new Blue&Me connectivity in the cabin in the new Fiat Ducato motor home version.
The Blue&Me system includes Bluetooth and can be fitted with live satellite navigation, a touch screen and wireless phone calls.
For those who own the Fiat Ducato motor home chassis, Fiat also offers a special camper van service network designed to help maintain and service the van at Fiat service dealerships.
Fiat is the only manufacturer to offer this service, which it will demonstrate at the upcoming Motorhome Caravan & Camping Show at ExCel, London from 14th February.
