Jaguar C-X16 concept snatches What Car? Award

The two-seat C-X16 sports car concept was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 201, has fought off competition for the ‘Most Exciting Car to be Launched in 2012’ award.

The C-X16 takes its design inspiration from the C-X75, jet powered, supercar concept which made its first appearance at the Paris Motor Show in 2010.

Its exterior design is clearly influenced by the C-X75 with a bold, sleek and aerodynamic race car feel to it.

However, the new C-X16 model is a lot more realistic than its supercar brother with its 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine delivering 375hp. This new V6 engine also has an impressive 0-62 capability of just 4.4 seconds and a massive top speed of 186mph. Also, for a car of its power capabilities it has a surprisingly high mile per gallon figure of 41mpg.

Chas Hallett, Editor-in-Chief of What Car? Magazine said: “Whatcar.com is more popular than ever, and its users are kept right up to speed on the latest models. They’ve voted the Jaguar C-X16 as the car they are most excited to see this year, and we share their enthusiasm.

“The concepts have looked terrific and we’re all looking forward to trying the production version on the road.”

The new C-X16 will be a successor – although not a direct one – to classic Jaguar two-seat sports cars of the past such as the iconic E-Type, but it is expected to offer the same modern luxury offered in the Jaguar XF and Jaguar XJ models.

However, it will actually sit below the Jaguar XK coupe in the line up as the smallest Jaguar on sale and a competitor for the likes of the Porsche 911.

Jaguar vehicles are available form Perry’s Huddersfield dealership.
