Amongst many other manufactures at the North American Motor Show, Chevrolet revealed new concept cars displaying possible production models and with new technological features.
As expected from its home show in the city where parent company GM is based, Chevrolet took the opportunity to try to steal the limelight from its competitors.
For the UK, the four eye-catching cars it did reveal could spell some exciting new cars – or at the very least technology – for future UK Chevrolet models.
Chevrolet Code 130R Concept
The 130R is a four-seat coupe with a classic sporty design heavily influenced by classic Chevrolet body features like that of the Camaro. It has a red metallic finish with anodized gold wheels and features a large Chevrolet badge in the centre of its front end. It also has rear wheel drive.
Could the concept mean Chevrolet is seriously looking at a sporty coupe for the UK market? It would be an interesting change of direction for a brand which so far has relied on frugal small cars such as the Spark and Aveo and practical family models such as the Cruze and Orlando.
The Chevrolet Tru 140S concept
The 140S is also a four-seat coupe, although this one comes in front-wheel-drive. The exterior design of the new 140S is a mix between the Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Volt and includes things like the sloped bonnet of the Volt. The 140S comes with an all new matte white paint job with chrome wheels.
Both of the new concepts are also expected to return up to 40MPG and 150hp with a 1.4L Turbo Ecotec engine.
These concept models may suggest that Chevrolet is planning new sportier models, much more like the previous Camaro model. The recent lack of sporty coupe models may be because Chevrolet has been focusing on keeping up with the current market of electric/small cars with the Volt and Cruze models.
Chevrolet Aveo RS
This new hot hatch offers quite a sporty appeal. It is a performance based version of the popular Aveo model and features the same classic appeal as the current Aveo model, although a slightly different grille. It comes with new RS sport seats, sport steering wheel and aluminium pedals.
It also comes with the new MyLink infotainment system, giving it a personal feel. It also includes a new spoiler, chrome exhaust and new 17″ five-spoke wheel design. The same 1.4-litre engine with 138hp is offered. This Aveo model may also be hinting at a new sporty outlook for the manufacturer.
The new Spark hatchback, a lot like the new Aveo, incorporates the classic appeal of the current model with just a few adjustments.
The new Spark offers a surprisingly spacious interior with plenty of head and leg room. It comes equipped with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine which produces 85hp. This engine comes with the choice of either a standard five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic gearbox.
The Spark will also feature a MyLink infotainment system with a seven-inch touch screen and Smartphone compatibility.
