In an end of year award for AutoCar’s long term test cars, the Range Rover TDV8 was named as the best car for long distance travel ahead of the likes of the BMW 520d Touring, Infiniti M30d and the Porsche Cayman.
The AutoCar team labelled the Range Rover the ‘king of the road’ and praised its ‘unique ability to make a long journey feel like a short one’.
The luxury Range Rover SUV is the biggest, most luxurious and most expensive Range Rover on sale in the UK and is regarded by many as the best luxury SUV on sale today.
Available in 4×4 configuration only, the TDV8 comes with a 3.6-litre V8 developing 272bhp, making it the most powerful Range Rover ever.
It comes with a huge range of equipment from leather interior and heated seats to the latest satellite navigation and sound systems.
It also features Land Rover’s All Terrain off-road system, designed to adapt the car to different off-road terrain and conditions.
The Range Rover is the most expensive car in the Range Rover sub-brand with entry-level luxury SUV models starting from under £70,000 in Land Rover dealerships.
Land Rover currently offers two other Range Rover SUVs, the smaller Range Rover Sport and the new 2011 Range Rover Evoque, the smallest in the range and the only Range Rover to offer a two-wheel drive option.
Other cars in contention for the AutoCar awards were impressive new cars such as the new 2011 Ford Focus, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback and the efficient Seat Leon Ecomotive.
