There’s no surprises for guessing which van has broken all sales records since its launch in 1965 – the Ford Transit van has been a staple of UK roads for nearly 50 years.
The van, which comes in over 350 different combinations thanks to a selection of engines, body styles, roof heights and vehicle lengths, is the UK’s best-seller in November with nearly 4,700 sold in a single month.
This represents a rise of nearly 1,000 over November last year and highlights the growth in van sales in 2011 despite a slump in new car sales.
Ford was the most popular van maker in the UK in November, helped by the Ford Transit, but the Ford Fiesta van also recorded impressive sales in November, leaping from 286 to 400 in 2011.
Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain managing director. “To continue to retain market leadership in the face of economic uncertainty and intense competition requires great cars and vans, great value and great service from our dealer partners, all of which we continue to deliver for our private and business customers.”
Ford currently offers a selection of vans in UK Ford van dealerships from the small, car-based Ford Fiesta, the compact Ford Transit Connect and the large Ford Transit van.
Ford Transit vans are easily the most versatile in the range and come in everything from a simple panel van to minibuses to a stripped-down chassis. Ford also offers bespoke Transit vans such as cooler vans for food-based businesses.
In the UK, one in five new vans is a Ford, making it the most successful van seller in the UK in 2011 to date.
