Judges of the awards have chosen the electric van, which was the first of its kind in the UK when it went on sale this year, as the best van in 2012.
With the likes of the Ford Transit winning Medium Van of the year and the Vauxhall Corsavan and Fiat Doblo winning Small and Light Van of the Year respectively, it was clear to see that the Kangoo didn’t just face competition from similar models, but from all different sectors of the market.
Commenting on the award for the Renault Kangoo, What Van? Editor Paul Barker said: “For operators in the right circumstances, it will be worthy of serious consideration, and coming at the price it has gives the technology every chance of moving towards the mainstream.
“The judges were unanimous in making the Kangoo ZE a deserving winner of our Van of the Year title.”
The Renault Kangoo ZE took the prestigious title because it offers zero tailpipe emissions due to its electric powertrain.
The Kangoo ZE is powered by a 400V battery pack that can be charged from home. Monthly battery lease prices start from £75 per month for a 6,000-mile/three-year contract, meaning Renault will cover the cost of replacing the expensive battery if needed.
With the standard Kangoo plenty of equipment is offered including 16″ alloy wheels, climate control, TomTom satellite navigation (that pinpoints charging points for you) and cruise control.
Barker added: “It’s a pleasure to hand out these awards to such an impressive line-up of products and services, and congratulations to each of them.”
Prices for the Renault Kangoo ZE start from £16,990. Renault vehicles are available from Perry’s Aylesbury dealership.
