The latest honour continues Citroen’s hot streak in the awards after its DS3 model was awarded ‘Small Car of the Year’ and overall ‘Car of the Year’ by Top Gear last year.
The Citroen DS5, a premium family car, fought off some tough already established competition in the family car segment including the best-selling Ford Focus.
Top Gear magazine said: “DS5 is a well-grounded, slick, futuristic machine, both inside and out. The inside is quirky but rational, exciting but functional and put together with considerable care, just like the rest of the car. And that makes it very pleasing indeed.
“All of which goes to show that because the DS5 isn’t a half-hearted copy of a German saloon, it’s the better for it.”
The DS5’s interior is also unique with pilot-styled overhead switches, which have been inspired by aeroplane cockpits, and premium materials for the dashboard and upholstery.
As well as its stylish exterior and interior, the DS5’s new Hybrid4 engine is a new piece of technology in the market, matching diesel to an electric motor for the first time in the UK.
This Hybrid4 engine uses both a diesel engine and an electric motor powered by a battery pack. This means that in turn the DS5 has lower emissions of 99g/km and is more efficient. However, it still packs quite a punch with 200hp.
Linda Jackson, Citroen UK’s managing director, said: “Standing out from the crowd with its unique looks, Citroen flair and innovative Hybrid4 technology, new DS5 is about an outstanding motoring experience for the whole family to enjoy.”
The new Citroen DS5 will be launched in the UK in the first quarter of 2012.
Citroen vehicles are available from Perry’s Barnsley, Huddersfield and Milton Keynes dealerships.
