The new, three-door Vauxhall Astra VXR is a high-performance hot hatch loosely based on the Astra GTC model but with improved performance and new exterior and interior designs.
The Astra VXR comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that delivers 280bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. This new engine gives the VXR a top speed of 155mph, which is 20mph faster than the GTC model.
The performance figures put the Vauxhall Astra VXR up against the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTi and the Ford Focus ST.
The VXR’s mechanics have also been enhanced with a new unique limited slip differential, which makes cornering at speed easier. These new cornering mechanics have already proven themselves at the ‘green heel’ track, which is full of tricky corners.
A new style of driving is also introduced to the VXR with a new ‘VXR’ button added alongside the already acquainted ‘sport’ button. This new button will give the car a more performance-orientated driving experience.
A new revamped design has been applied to the VXR’s exterior. Distinctive new features include sculpted front and rear bumpers, two exhaust pipes and extended side skirts.
The revamped design continues to the VXR’s interior with new performance seats, chrome-effect highlights and a new steering wheel.
This includes sculpted front and rear bumpers, which are as much a visual addition as a boost to performance, as well as two exhaust pipes and extended side skirts.
The Vauxhall Astra VXR will go on sale in the UK in 2012 and prices will be revealed closer to the launch date.
