Kia’s modified sport models woo Vegas

Kia Motors America has proved it can be sporty, slick and stylish (not to mention low cost and low emissions) at the SEMA modelling show with four specially modified sport-themed vehicles.

The show took place in Las Vegas and gave the manufacturer a chance to show it doesn’t just do low cost motoring – it can do garish and loud as well.

The six Kia vehicles that made an appearance where all actual Kia models: the Optima, Rio and Soul, but all had a sportier appeal.

This show was promoting the fact that Kia is the fastest growing car company in the U.S, as well as promoting its ever growing population in the UK.

Michael Sprague, Vice President, marketing and communications, Kia Motors America said:

“Kia is experiencing unprecedented growth and momentum and we’re bringing our most exciting range of show cars ever to this year’s SEMA Show, including several variations on the stylish all-new 2012 Rio 5-door and the fuel-efficient and technology-laden Optima Hybrid.”

Don’t expect to see them on the roads, but it does go some way to highlighting what is becoming a more interesting, adventurous brand – as the stunning GT concept highlighted.

Here is a list of the top four models that appeared at the SEMA show:

Kia Slam Dunk Optima Hybrid

Based on the Kia Optimathis model has its own basis of inspiration, being Basketball.

It has a custom orange paint job, much like a basketball and also has 20-inch black wheels.

Inside the car basketball-court flooring is fitted in the front and rear seating area and two flat- screen TV’s are mounted on the headrests of the front seats.

This golf themed Kia Soul has a cool ‘so blue’ paint job and slick 20-inch wheels. It also original artwork etched on the side of it which continues to its interior on the headrests.

The dashboard is a baby blue and pink, but the real golf attributes are its artificial grass flooring and virtual driving range on a monitor that folds down.

With Kia Rio inspired styling this model has been designed to accompany a surfer’s lifestyle.

It has been lowered with a modified suspension which sets it up for sportier handling, which goes hand in hand with its 17″ gold wheels. It also has sunset-metallic body paint.
