Euro NCAP, Europe’s most respected safety tester, has released its top scoring five star cars for this month which reveals that models such as the Chevrolet Captiva, Ford Ranger and Vauxhall Astra GTC all got top ratings with five stars.
Below are some of the models that achieved five star ratings:
Vauxhall Zafira Tourer
The Zafira achieved impressive percentage in all categories, its best being 94 per cent in the adult occupant category. Its child occupant safety percentage was also high with 83 per cent.
Aspects of safety for a car like the Zafira are vital because it is considered a family car and people will want a reliably safe car to protect their family.
Vauxhall Zafira prices are yet to be announced and the Zafira will be released next year.
The Ranger impressed Euro NCAP by being the first pickup truck to achieve five stars. With 96 percent adult occupant safety and 81 per cent pedestrian safety the Ranger proved itself compared to other vehicles that usually score about 50 or 60 per cent pedestrian safety.
This new safety performance is down to Ford’s new front end that has been designed softer which absorbs energy and better protects pedestrians.
Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP secretary general, said: “with such pedestrian protection the Ford Ranger is undoubtedly raising the bar of safety in the category of pick-up trucks, which had until now not proven to be the safest.”
The Ford Ranger prices start from £15,515.
The Captiva is another family edition to the top star ratings and because it’s a family car, its safety is vital.
Scoring 88 per cent on the adult occupant test and 82 per cent on the child occupant test the Captiva is well equipped and adequate when it comes to safety.
Euro NCAP’s safety report said that in the side barrier test “both child dummies were properly contained by the protective shells of their restraints, minimising the likelihood of dangerous head contacts.”
The Chevrolet Captiva starts from £19,995.
Vauxhall Astra GTC
The Astra is one of Vauxhall’s most popular models, which means maintaining its safety features vital. With 91 per cent scored in the adult occupant test the small family proved itself amongst other models.
The Astra boast good rear-end collision protection with Euro NCAP saying it “provided good protection against whiplash injuries”.
The Astra proves that even with a new stylish approach to models, safety can still be maintained.
The Vauxhall Astra GTC starts from £18,495.
Based on the Dodge Journey, the Freemont is an SUV which also proved itself in the Euro NCAP tests and was described as has having good child occupant protection and achieved 83 per cent in the adult occupant safety.
The Fiat Freemontis not currently available in the UK.
