The Ford Fiesta, Ford Mondeo and Ford S-Max all picked up awards at the What Car? Used Car of the Year Awards, which celebrates the best used cars in the UK.
“Ford deserve a special mention because it is producing well-designed, well-built cars in many categories. Used Fords are going to be extremely popular with used buyers,” said Chas Hallett, What Car?’s editor-in-chief.
Judges of the annual awards, which included people from the media, car dealerships, auctions and leasing companies, found Ford’s mid-range specification models were the best for price, equipment and running costs.
Other aspects of the cars such as safety features, desirability and reliability were also judged in the awards. Ford was the only car maker to have more than one model in the list of nine winners, taking a third of all the awards handed out.
These included the Ford Fiesta Style in five-door format. When fitted with a 1.25-litre engine, the UK’s most popular car costs an average £5,200 for a 2008 version. Judges voted the Ford Fiesta the best used supermini in the awards.
The brand also dominated the family car segment with the Ford Mondeo 2.0-litre diesel in mid-range Zetec specification winning the award.
The hatchback model was selected by the judges as the best value Ford Mondeo, with prices of around £7,345 for a four year old model. The Mondeo was also the overall winner of the 2010 awards.
Finally, the Ford S-Max people carrier, capable of carrying five people, was named the winner of the MPV category. Sharing the same 2.0-litre diesel engine as the winning Mondeo and in mid-range Zetec specification, the S-Max costs an average of £9,325.
