Based on the standard Peugeot 508, a Limited Edition diesel-hybrid version is now on sale in the UK months before the full range is made available.
Priced from £36,000, the Peugeot 508 RXH Limited Edition is kitted out in top level specification and come exclusive elements befitting the Limited Edition name.
The Limited Edition model comes with Copper metallic paintwork as standard alongside Xenon headlamps and daytime running lights.
Fitted with panoramic glass roof, tinted side windows, LED daytime running lights and 18″ alloy wheels, the Peugeot 508 RXH Limited Edition is bordering on premium levels of specification.
Inside, the car is kitted out in leather and Alcantara upholstery and includes a head up display, electric heated seats, quad-zone climate air conditioning, sat-nav and parking aids.
The main talking point however, lies underneath the lavishly-decorated exterior. The Peugeot 508 RXH is the second car (after the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4) in Peugeot’s range to use the HYbrid4 system.
Previously, hybrid cars used a combination of petrol engine and electric motor charged by a battery pack as a powertrain.
However, the Peugeot HYbrid4 system matches the electric motor with the superior efficiency of a diesel engine for the first time. The system uses a four-wheel drive setup with the diesel engine powering the front wheels and the electric motor powering the rear wheels.
In total, the combined power from the 2.0-litre diesel engine and the electric motor comes in at 200bhp, but the car is also capable of travelling in purely electric mode.
The result is fuel economy of 67mpg and CO2 emissions of 109g/km. In the UK, this means free Vehicle Excise Duty for the first year and £30 per year in subsequent years.
The Peugeot 508 RXH Limited Edition is available to buy now. The standard Peugeot 508 RXH range will go on sale in the UK early in 2012.
