Kia has unveiled a full Rio price list in preparation for the launch of the supermini in time for the new ’61’ plates, including four engines and three specification levels.
A three-door version will be released early in 2012, but the first models to go on sale in the UK will be five-door only as Kia aims to take on the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa.
To do this, the Rio features drastically updated styling, including the thin grille and ‘tiger face’ front end seen on the likes of the Sportage crossover and new Picanto city car.
Inside, the interior has been upgraded with more premium materials than before and the three trim levels, called simply ‘1’, ‘2’ and ‘3’, have been tweaked to add more equipment as standard.
Kia says the new model will have more room for passengers and luggage than previous versions despite the introduction of a lower, sportier roofline.
All models come with daytime running lights, front electric windows and an MP3 sounds system with radio, CD player and Bluetooth connectivity.
Entry-level models cost £10,595 and come with a choice of 1.25-litre petrol engine or the 1.1-litre diesel, which in Ecodynamics derivation delivers congestion charge-free levels of CO2 emissions and 88.3mpg of fuel economy.
The entry-level diesel costs £11,095, but both petrol and diesel versions can be upgraded to include air conditioning in the ‘1 Air’ specification for extra cost.
The second specification, 2, is available with the same two engines as well as a 1.4-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel option (with EcoDynamics signature), priced from £13,095 and £13,795 respectively.
Like the less powerful EcoDynamics model, the 1.1-litre EcoDynamics in ‘2’ specification is congestion charge-free and free from Vehicle Excise Duty because the low level of CO2 emissions.
At the top of the range, the equipment-packed Kia Rio 3 specification is available with both the 1.4-litre petrol and similar-size diesel unit, with prices starting from £12,795 and £14,895 respectively.
The new 2012 Kia Rio will be available in Kia showrooms from 1 September, complete with new ’61’ registration plate.
