Renault electric car test drives begin

The Renault Kangoo Van Z.E. and the Renault Fluence Z.E. saloon will be available to drive at the Millbrook Proving Ground on 28 and 29 June.

The show is designed specifically for company car drivers, and 22 versions of the vehicles will be available as part of an ‘Electric Vehicle Village’.

The Renault Fluence Z.E. will be the first electric saloon sold in the UK as a mass product when it arrives next year, and Renault expects the all-electric drivetrain and subsequent exemption from VED and the congestion charge will be a hit with business buyers.

The Renault Kangoo Van Z.E., meanwhile, will compete with the Ford Transit Connect Electric in the van market, where it is designed as a city van for shorter, stop-start routes.

Darren Payne, Renault UK’s Director of Commercial Vehicles and Fleet Operations, said: "It will be one of the first opportunities to experience these impressive vehicles in advance of their launch, so make sure you put your name down early.

"Come and see us to try out the rest of the range too and find out more about why Renault was awarded the coveted Fleet News Award for Most Improved Fleet Manufacturer of the Year 2011."

The two electric vehicles will be joined by a more conventional ‘green’ car in the form of the Renault Clio fitted with an Eco Pack and eco2 diesel engine.

This results in CO2 emissions of 94g/km – enough for zero VED – and fuel economy of 76.3mpg from the supermini, making it the most efficient car in the Renault range.

It will be joined by a model at the other end of the scale, the Megane Renaultsport 250 hatchback, the fastest Renault available to buy at the moment.
