After launching a tie-in with satellite navigation makers Carminat Tom Tom, the French manufacturer has now reached the one million target within 24 months of offering the technology as an option.
The system has been a success after Renault included it in standard TomTom’ trim levels on the Renault Clio, Renault Megane, Renault Scenic and Renault Laguna cars.
It is also available on Renault’s van range, including the Kangoo, Trafic and Master van models. Renault has made the Carminat Tom Tom system available as an optional extra on other trim levels in its range.
The alliance with Tom Tom has proved successful for Renault as more and more UK motorists specify satellite navigation as one of the must-have accessories when buying a new car.
Giles Shrimpton, CEO of TomTom Automotive, said: "We are extremely happy to announce that the one millionth Carminat TomTom has been fitted in a Renault vehicle.
"This figure is tangible proof of the success of our product and our partnership with Renault. We plan to continue this partnership with Renault in the long term by bringing our customer the best of our expertise."
As well as offering motorists directions, installing a satellite navigation system in a car can also have a positive effect on the value of the car when it comes to selling it on.
Renault is the first manufacturer to link up with Carminat Tom Tom to offer specific satellite navigation-themed specification levels.
Stephen Norman, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing at Renault, said: "One million Renault owners have since 2009 chosen an in-dash Carminat TomTom navigation system. Today, for just £470, this intelligent on-board system brings customers connected services that are highly appreciated and hard to go without once you have experienced their quality."
