Range Rover Evoque stars in Wimbledon launch

Wimbledon, Britain’s top tennis tournament, kicks off today and once again the nation will be watching in suspense as Andy Murray battles to win his first ever grand slam tournament.

The usual mixture of strawberries, champagne and, less welcome, rain is expected to surround the next two weeks of tennis, and car makers are getting in on the act as well.

Land Rover used the event, which is in its 125th year, to launch a star-filled opening party to celebrate the beginning of Wimbledon and the upcoming launch of its newest Range Rover, the Evoque.

Wimbledon’s neatly manicured lawns are hardly the first thing you would associate with Land Rover, whose ability to build class-leading off-roaders is well documented.

However, the Range Rover Evoque is a break from the norm for the British-based brand, and Wimbledon seems to be the perfect fit.

This is because the Evoque is designed for the city – as highlighted by the launch of several test cars last year with the names of some of the world’s greatest cities emblazoned across them.

With Victoria Beckham coming on board to offer design advice for the interior of the Evoque, which comes in two- and four-wheel drives, it is obvious Land Rover is targeting a new type of buyer for its smallest and most efficient Range Rover ever.

Designed as a fashionable car built for the city (but retaining that off-road ability if needed), the Evoque was the star of the party last night, which included a collaboration between the British Fashion Council and the Women’s Tennis Association.

The event saw designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney design dresses for some of the female game’s top players, and highlights the fashion-conscious focus of the new Evoque.

This is no more evident than in the trim level choices for the Evoque. In fact, Land Rover has discarded with the ‘trim’ term completely, instead offering three different customisable ‘themes’ with each Range Rover Evoque sold.

A small, fashionable SUV with plenty of style, lashings of luxury and a sub-£30,000 price tag, the Range Rover Evoque was a hit at the party held at the Roof Gardens in Kensington and when deliveries begin towards the end of the year, it is sure to be a hit with UK buyers too.
