Fastest ever Renault road car revealed

The Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy, as the name suggests, adds an extra 15hp over the 250 to take the title of fastest ever Renault road car.

Priced at a little under £28,000, the new Renault boasts a top speed of 158mph – an improvement of 2mph over its hot hatch sibling.

Renault has also shaved 0.1 of a second off the 0-62mph sprint time to bring it down to six seconds thanks to the added horsepower and 20Nm more torque from the 2.0-litre diesel engine.

Renault says it will sell 500 of the limited edition Megane, but only 50 right hand drive versions will arrive onto UK soil when the first deliveries begin in July.

The 50 lucky owners will have a limited choice of yellow or metallic black with the optional choice of a diamond black roof for an additional £415.

In keeping with the Renaultsport name, the Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy includes gloss black 19" alloy wheels, red rim, high performance tyres and even F1-style decals on front blade and doors.

Inside, Recaro sports seats and a UK numbered plaque add to the exclusivity, while yellow seatbelts and stitching offset the exterior colour.

Under the cosmetic additions, the Trophy uses the Cup chassis which includes stiffer springs, dampers and grooved brake discs to improve performance.

To get the most out of the performance, Renault is also offering the 50 UK buyers the chance to attend Renault’s trackdays across the UK free of charge.

Order books for the fastest Renault on sale in the UK open on 20 June, with the first deliveries arriving at the beginning of July.
