Previously only capable of 155mph where legal, the Vauxhall Insignia VXR is now being offered with a £250 ‘Unlimited’ option, which removes the speed limiter on hatchback, saloon and Sports Tourer models.
This makes the best use of the 2.8-litre V6 engine, which develops 325PS and is capable of hitting 60mph from standing in 5.6 seconds.
"For those owners who enjoy driving on the continent, the Unlimited option lets them experience the Insignia VXR’s true top speed, combined with the peerless stability and secure handling that only an all-wheel-drive chassis can offer," said Stuart Harris, Vauxhall’s Group Product Manager.
To differentiate the new faster Insignia VXR from standard versions, a blue Brembo logo is included on the front brake callipers and the instrument panel has been redesigned to incorporate the higher speeds.
Underneath the exterior, the Vauxhall Insignia VXR retains the adaptive 4×4 layout to provide more traction, and makes use of Vauxhall’s FlexRide chassis, which is capable of adjusting the car for three different driving modes.
These are standard, Sport and VXR, each offering different driving dynamics depending on conditions and allowing the driver to get the most from the high-powered Insignia.
The Vauxhall Insignia VXR will cost over £35,000, and sits at the top of the Insignia range. The latest Unlimited edition costs an extra £250, and comes with Vauxhall’s promise of top performance after test models were thrashed around the Nurburgring in Germany for 10,000 kilometres.
The new Vauxhall Insignia VXR Unlimited is available from all Vauxhall dealerships now.
