The biggest change over the previous version, which has won over 50 International Awards since its 2009 launch, comes in the shape of the 2.2-litre diesel engine.
The four-cylinder unit develops 187bhp and delivers 332lbs ft of torque, enabling a top speed of 140mph and a 0-62mph sprint time of 8.5 seconds.
Matched to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, the engine includes Stop-Start technology and as a result pushes fuel economy up to 50mpg and brings CO2 emissions down to 149g/km – a five per cent increase on the previous version.
The 2012 Jaguar XF will look different too after a revamp to the front end to bring it in line with the stunning Jaguar XJ. This means new slimmer headlights, a larger grille and a lower bonnet to give it a more planted stance.
Chrome fins, new vents and redesigned tail lamps complete the exterior overhaul, while inside new colours and redesigned seats give the interior a 2012 refresh.
Other engine options such as the 3.0-litre V6 diesel and two petrol V8 engines remain as options, the latter available as a supercharged 500bhp unit in the new 2012 Jaguar XFR performance version.
The XFR itself extends the new styling upgrades with new cooling vents in the bonnet and sporty new 20" wheels.
Prices for the standard 2012 Jaguar XF start from £30,950 when the new 2.2-litre diesel engine is specified. The powerful XFR costs £65,350 on-the-road.
Both models will go on show for the duration of the New York Auto Show alongside the new-look Jaguar XK coupe.
Jaguar currently boasts a three-strong range; the Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ saloon and Jaguar XK in coupe and convertible body styles.
