Art makeover for Chevrolet Spark

Ian Cook, the man behind PopBang Colour, made his name painting images of cars using remote control cars as ‘paintbrushes’ and had designed the exterior of the Chevrolet ‘SpART’ after working with the American manufacturer.

However, an attempted break-in to the five-door supermini damaged the original artwork and Cook is now looking for ideas to repaint the body work with his own designs.

"I was gutted," said Ian: "They clearly wanted to steal the car as they’d also had a go at the ignition barrel, but most of the damage was to the driver’s side door, meaning the whole livery had to come off. My SpART looked very silly indeed with two plain blue doors, so there really was only one thing I could do – strip the whole thing off and start again!"

He describes some of the ideas submitted through the Chevrolet Facebook page as ‘wacky’, but insists the more bizarre the better.

He said: "They have to be a bit wacky, and support the youth appeal and funkiness of the Spark as well as represent both what Popbang and Chevrolet stand for."

The Chevrolet Spark was launched last year and its modern styling and choice of bright exterior colours and body graphics are designed to appeal to a younger buyer.

The Spark starts from just £7,215 for entry-level models and comes in the choice of Spark, Spark+ or Spark LS specification levels.

Its frugal 1.0- or 1.2-litre petrol engines deliver CO2 emissions as low as 119g/km and fuel economy up to 55.4mpg from the smaller of the two engines.

The Chevrolet Spark is available to buy now from UK Chevrolet dealers. Ian’s new-look Chevrolet SpART will be revealed next month.
