Kia’s crossover SUV was also named the Best 4×4 in the awards, beating competition from luxury manufacturers such as BMW, Audi and Land Rover to take the title.
Judges said they chose the Kia Sportage “not just because it blends the best in on and off-road performance, and is loaded with kit.
"It also shows that Kia’s engineers and designers are capable of building a world beating car. With its seven year warranty, good looks and capable diesel engine range it’s a vehicle you can choose with your head, and your heart.”
The Kia Sportage has been a big hit with UK buyers since its launch last year. The chunky, modern styling comes courtesy of ex-Audi design chief Peter Schreyer and has influenced several new Kia models including the Kia Rio and Kia Picanto.
The Sportage was also the recipient of a prestigious Red Dot award last year, which honours the best in product design.
Inside, the Sportage comes with three trim levels. Standard equipment on all models include 16" alloy wheels, air conditioning, LED daytime running lights, leather steering wheel, cruise control and front fog lights.
Michael Cole, managing director of Kia UK, said: “Since we launched the all-new Sportage we have seen remarkable levels of interest and demand for the car from a wide audience. It has attracted people from every sector of the new car market and CarBuyer’s endorsement of Sportage’s technology, reliability, design and value simply emphasises those advantages."
The Kia Sportage starts from £17,015 for 1.6-litre petrol versions in two-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive models are also available alongside an engine range comprising a 2.0-litre petrol and 1.7 and 2.0-litre diesel options.
