The latest generation Ford Fiesta S1600 continues the model’s hot hatch history courtesy of a 1.6-litre Duratorq petrol engine delivering 134PS.
The 8.2 second time outstrips previous versions of the racing-inspired Fiesta by 1.7 seconds, and the model can go on to achieve a top speed of 120mph.
Ford has adorned the Fiesta S1600 with racing-inspired designs to achieve the performance figures. These include a body styling kit with a new front bumper, extended side skirts and a larger rear spoiler and diffuser.
To look the part, the new S1600 features 17" white alloy wheels and a choice of white and blue body colours complete with racing stripes.
Inside, the car is given leather sports seats and leather handbrake cover and gear knob. Motorsport-styled mats and scuff plates are added to the interior alongside more practical equipment such as heated seats and side airbags.
The three-door model will cost £15,895 on-the-road, but only 500 will be made, ensuring exclusivity for anybody who buys the latest in Ford’s racing line.
Andrew Paton, Ford of Britain’s Fiesta product manager, said: “The sportier character of these limited-edition Fiesta S1600 models will appeal to all driving enthusiasts.
"The previous S1600 was rapidly sold out which shows how much fun these affordable new Fiesta models are – and now with more power and performance these latest versions are set to be an even greater hit.”
Ford has a history of racing-inspired cars and will go up against rival superminis such as Renault’s Clio RenaultSport model and the Vauxhall Corsa VXR.
The Ford Fiesta S1600 limited edition will go on sale in the UK in March 2011.
