Named the Mazda MX-5 Kendo Special Editions, which translates as ‘Way of the sword’, the special editions will come in hard-top and convertible variations from 1 March.
The cars are based on the long-running Mazda MX-5 – the UK’s most popular two-seat sports car ever made – but add more equipment and some exclusive style to the cars.
Both models have been given a new Stone Leather interior with Stone stitching on the driver-oriented parts of the cabin including the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake.
Special Edition mats, brushed aluminium style-bar trim and some sporty aluminium pedals complete the interior upgrade, while exclusive badging can be found inside and out.
Available in either grey or black micra paint finish, the cars come with unique 17" alloy wheels and front fog lights added to the standard SE specification.
Both models get heated seats, but only the hard-top coupe version will receive a new premium BOSE sound system, cruise control and Bluetooth connectivity.
It will also come with a larger engine; a 2.0-lite 160ps unit compared to the 1.8-litre engine offered with the Kendo convertible.
The Mazda MX-5 Kendo hard-top comes is priced at £22,230 and the convertible £19,255 on-the-road. Both models will be available in March 2011.
Mark Cameron, Sales Director, Mazda UK, said: "Special Edition models of Mazda MX-5 have always been eagerly received by UK consumers and I’m sure the two new Kendo models will trigger a strong wave of fresh interest in our long-running star performer."
The Mazda MX-5 has been on sale for 20 years in the UK and has sold nearly 100,000 cars in the UK – making it the UK’s favourite sports car.
