Second-generation Kia Magentis set for UK

With the focus on a good looking exterior, designer Peter Schreyer and his team have made the new-look Magentis saloon sportier and more athletic looking.

The impressive styling includes distinctive, curved lines and refreshed front and rear lights.

The four-door saloon, known as the Kia Optima outside Europe, was showcased at the New York International Auto Show in April 2010.

Kia claims the Magentis has more luggage space than outgoing models. This is down to the longer wheelbase and longer, lower and wider dimensions of the new model.

Kia is well known in the UK for producing small cars and SUVs such as the Sportage. However, the muscular style of the Magentis could allow the Korean manufacturer to compete with the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the luxury car market.

The Kia Magentis is expected to be available with a range of petrol and diesel engines, including the 2.0-litre petrol used in the Sportage.

No prices have been released for the latest offering from Kia, but details are sure to be announced closer to the UK release date in 2011.
