The 50 largest contract hire and leasing companies were asked by Fleet News to vote for the most reliable supplier of commercial vehicles and named Ford as the runaway leader.
The Ford Transit, Britain’s most popular van, was named the most reliable commercial vehicle, while the smaller model, the Transit Connect, finished third on the list.
Overall, Ford was named the most reliable manufacturer for vans, continuing the success of the brand in the survey. The Ford Transit has now been named the most reliable UK van for four consecutive years.
The companies taking part in the survey, said to be the most accurate look at reliability in the commercial sector in the UK, together operate over one million vehicles and many of them are Ford models.
Kevin Griffin, Ford of Britain fleet director, said: “Reliability and minimising off-road time is critical for the commercial vehicle operator, whether it’s a small van or a large truck. As commercial vehicle market leader for 46 years, Ford supports the most efficient use of a vehicle whilst on the road. The independent survey from Fleet News is a key element for all manufacturers’ understanding of our fleet customers’ views.
Fleet News editor Stephen Briers said: "Businesses that depend on vehicles take reliability very seriously, and can’t afford downtime through breakdowns that incurs extra costs.
"This is the largest reliability survey of its kind, so any vehicle with a top 10 placing will represent a safe bet for any organisation or private motorist."
This is good news for the likes of the Citroen Berlingo, Citroen Relay, Vauxhall Combo and Vauxhall Vivaro, which all finished in the top ten most reliable vehicles.
