Used Kia Picanto sales rose by a massive 244 per cent in 2010, and the success of the small city car has been attributed to the extension of the Korean manufacturer’s seven year warranty.
As part of the Approved Used cars scheme, Kia will top up warranties to their original levels for used cars, meaning some will be extended to three, five and even seven years depending on the model and date of registration.
The five-door Kia Picanto is available from new for £6,495, but used models can be significantly cheaper.
From January 2010, all new models came with a seven-year warranty, one of the longest in the industry.
The second biggest rise in used car sales for Kia in 2010 is that of the Kia cee’d family hatchback. The car appeared on Top Gear as the Reasonably Priced Car, where celebrities such as Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise drove it around the Top Gear track.
This has increased the popularity of the Kia cee’d and used car sales have increased by 119 per cent in 2010.
In total, Kia recorded a 67 per cent increase in used car sales across its 153 approved used dealers, including Perrys Motors in Burnley, Preston and Rotherham.
David McCluskey National Used Vehicle Sales Manager, Kia Motors UK, said: "It’s not just our new car seven year warranty that is grabbing headlines. This outstanding warranty is extended to all used cars, which makes the Kia used car programme one of the best available."
