Special First Edition models have been on sale in the UK in limited numbers for a month, but this week the entire range of two- and four-wheel drive models go on sale from £16,645.
As with all Kia models, the Sportage also comes with Kia’s seven-year100,000 warranty, one of the longest in the industry.
Using the same popular design language introduced by Peter Schreyer in the smaller Soul, the Sportage is available with four different engines and a wide range of equipment.
Engine choices range from 1.6- or 2.0-litre petrol and 1.7- or 2.0-litre diesel engines and a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Available in three specification levels; 1, 2 and 3, the Kia Sportage comes with 16" alloy wheels, air conditioning, LED daytime running lights, front fog lights, automatic windscreen wipers and cruise control as standard.
The Sportage 2 adds roof rails, privacy glass, reversing sensors, panoramic sunroof and trip computer to the standard spec and models start from £18,520.
The range-topping Sportage 3 models start from £21,595 and add full leather upholstery with heated front and rear seats, dual-zone climate control, Xenon headlamps, 18" alloy wheels, automatic headlamps and front wiper de-icer to the Sportage 2 specification.
Inside, satellite navigation and a rear-view safety camera is also included in top specification models.
Designed to compete with the Peugeot 3008 or Ford Kuga, the Sportage has been designed to be one of the best-looking cars in the crossover market.
Chief designer Peter Schreyer says the design is an attempt to make a larger car much more desirable.
“The allure of a Kia should extend well beyond the fact that it moves people from one place to the other,” he says.
Kia added: "It has been designed to meet the requirements of young families – or the young at heart – who lead busy, primarily urban-centric, lifestyles."
The Kia Sportage is available to buy now from Perrys Rotherham, Preston and Burnley.
