On 12th September at the Mall, Citroen’s 300bhp electric race car, recently tested on the Le Mans Circuit, will be joined by some of the world’s most eco-friendly vehicles for the event.
They will be joined by celebrity petrol heads including Kevin McCloud, Ellen MacArthur, Quentin Wilson, Duncan Bannatyne and James Caan.
The Citroen Survolt will be one of the most exciting concept cars on display, complete with two electric motors capable of powering the car to a top speed of 162mph and a 0-62mph sprint time of under five seconds.
The twin 31kw, 140kg lithium-ion batteries are capable of storing enough charge to deliver a range of up to 124 miles – more than production electric cars such as the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
To achieve this, Citroen has used lightweight materials in the Survolt along with full carbon bodywork, a tubular chassis and flat underside with extractor.
Citroen has not announced plans to turn the Survolt car into a production model, but the design and technology is expected to tease future, sport electric models from the French manufacturer.
Citroen will release an all-electric vehicle next year in the shape of the Citroen C-Zero, which has been developed in conjunction with sister brand Peugeot and Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi. The C-Zero city car will be eligible for the government’s £5,000 green car grant when it arrives in 2011.
The Prince of Wales’ Start Eco Car Spectacular will be held on the Mall on Sunday 12 September as part of the 12-day Start London festival designed to showcase sustainable technology.
The festival will take place at Clarence House, Marlborough House and Lancaster House gardens.
