The collection contains the largest group of roadworthy historical Ford vehicles in the UK and only accepts iconic Ford models to be inducted.
Ford corporate affairs manager, Brian Bennett, said: “The heritage collection is the largest collection of roadworthy historic Ford vehicles in the UK and includes some of the industry’s most famous vehicles such as the Ford Model T and the Ford Cortina.
"Performance models feature strongly and the Ford Focus RS500 was an obvious choice to include as a future classic.”
The Ford Focus RS500 has thrilled car fans in the UK since it was released earlier this year. Housing a 345bhp engine and capable of a 0-62mph sprint time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 165mph, the Focus RS500 also features aggressive styling features inspired by racing models.
The Ford Focus RS500 hot hatch is based on the standard RS model, which itself provides 300bhp from under the bonnet.
The first UK unit – number PR001 – will now join the likes of the 1970 London to Mexico winning Ford Escort, Ford RS200 and 2005 Ford GT supercar in the collection.
The Ford heritage collection is available to see in the UK at a number of motor shows and at selected Ford dealers throughout the year.
In between touring the country, it will be housed at the Dagenham site in Essex.
