Citroen C4 given five-star safety rating

The C4 achieved the five-star rating after scoring 97% in the "Safety Assist" category – the highest score for any vehicle of its type. The C4, which will be released in 2011, therefore fulfils the needs of the most safety-conscious drivers.

The C4 is littered with safety-enhancing technology. ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Emergency Braking Assistance (EBA), and an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP). When this is coupled with six airbags for the driver, front passenger, front lateral and curtain, it is worthy of the Euro NCAP 5-star rating.

As well as this, there are a number of unique and innovative safety features that have been afforded particular recommendation by Euro NCAP.

The Citroen C4 was the only car rewarded for its cruise control and speed limiter function that allows the driver to programme five road speed settings into the car memory settings. This function helps maintain a safe driving speed.

Also inbuilt is a blind spot monitoring system that alerts drivers to vehicles in their blind spot. For cornering, the C4 includes a cornering light function that improves visibility in bends.

The new eTouch Assistance System improves onboard functionality for swift incident response. eTouch allows the driver to place geo-localised breakdown assistance calls via the in-built GPS module and Sim card. It also logs all maintenance carried out on the vehicle and warns of future repairs through an online service book.

Similarly, eTouch enables the driver to monitor driving patterns, offering advice on making driving more efficient.

The new C4 builds on the five-Star Euro NCAP rating of its predecessor; also one of the safest in its class.
