The French manufacturer is urging people to send in videos of themselves stripping off in 12 seconds – the same time it takes the industry-leading Wind roof to open completely.
However, Renault is advising against videos of people stripping naked and has urged entrants to the competition to instead strip from winter clothes to at least one layer of summer attire.
Renault says the winning entry will be ‘outlandish’ and possibly feature unusual clothes, interesting people or iconic landmarks.
The marque also hinted entrants will have a better chance of winning if more people appear in the video and is offering the opportunity to film the video at Renault dealerships or in front of two interactive screens in London and Manchester.
The ’12secondstrip’ competition boasts its own website and several entrants have already entered the competition in order to drive away with a new Renault Wind roadster.
Speaking about the imminent launch, Renault UK’s Marketing Director, Phil York, said, "With its clever roof system, Wind Roadster is unique in its class, so we wanted an ad campaign which broke away from the norm, yet mirrored its attention-grabbing style."
The innovative roof has been emphasised during the Wind’s launch. The hard-top opens and closes in just 12 seconds and unlike other drop-tops, the mechanism doesn’t encroach on any boot space because of a clever two-part folding system.
A new Renault Wind two-seat coupe-cabriolet will be awarded to the winner of the competition once the 30 September deadline passes.
Renault UK’s Marketing Director, Phil York, said: "We hope our latest initiative will capture the imagination of the British public, come rain or shine, and that like driving the car itself, they will have a lot of fun at the same time.
"We don’t care if you’re wearing granny knickers, a tatty old pair of Calvins, or even if your underwear isn’t whiter than white, so as long as the video is fun and tasteful."
All entries can be browsed on the 12secondstrip website, which includes clumsy, sexy, funny and an outtakes section.
