Days before the next four-Test series against Pakistan, Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook and Eoin Morgan tested out the new Jaguar on the manufacturer’s test track in Gaydon.
On hand to deliver driving tips was former British F1 driver Martin Brundle and three Jaguar test drivers, and England captain Strauss was impressed with the new addition to the Big Cat line-up.
He said: "Taking the cars out today has been great fun and it was really useful to pick up a few tips from Martin and the boys. Professional cricketers do a lot of driving during the summer going from venue to venue, so after a hard day play it’s very reassuring to jump into a car as comfortable as the Jaguar XJ."
Strauss described the Jaguar XJ as having ‘superb performance, a luxury interior and sleek design’ before adding: "And with all that boot space, I can fit my cricket bag in without any problems too!"
The track day was organised after Jaguar confirmed a deal to become the official vehicle supplier of the England Cricket Team and announced a partnership with the ECB.
Jaguar’s revitalised range, which includes the XJ, XF and XK models, will be used by England’s cricketers for the next four years.
The move comes as part of the Jaguar Academy of Sport, which celebrates David Beckham and Rio Ferdinand amongst its patrons in its quest to celebrate the best of British sporting talent.
At the test track, Geoff Cousins, Jaguar UK managing director, said: "It’s great to see Andrew, Eoin and Alastair enjoying themselves in the Jaguar XJs today. Consistently breathtaking performance is a distinctive quality of both a Jaguar XJ and the current England cricket team, which makes our new partnership such a great fit for the Jaguar brand."
