Ford Mondeo out in October

Hard to believe that the Mondeo is due its mid-life facelift because it doesn’t seem five minutes ago that we first drove it and marvelled at its ride comfort and sophistication.

But time doesn’t stand still and in October there will a revised version in our showrooms. As you can see, it has sharper styling at the front with the wings and radiator grille being more prominent, much as we saw when the S-MAX and Galaxy were facelifted earlier this summer.

What you can’t see though, is some of the eco-technology under the bonnet. The Mondeo will be the first Ford to have an `active’ radiator grille. Electronically activated, this will close the vents as the car goes faster, reducing the amount of turbulent air in the engine bay which causes a lot of aerodynamic drag – and that costs fuel.

It will also react to temperature, staying closed for longer in the cold to reduce the time needed to get the engine warm. It might not sound a big deal but it underlines the detail to which Ford is going to reduce consumption and emissions.

On the engine front the big news is that the most potent version yet of the petrol EcoBoost engine will be available and the 2.2 Duratorq for those who prefer diesel.

There is a host of driver-aids (lane departure warning, blind spot collision warning etc etc) and again, just as with the Galaxy and S-MAX, a more premium feel to the cabin through better trim material.

No word yet on prices but how’s this for a thought – the new look Mondeo will be with us in October and in the meantime we will be beginning to clear our stocks of the outgoing version and that means keen prices. Watch this space for news of special offers on Mondeo!
