Kia Soul nominated for family car award

Car site Edmunds and US-based Parents Magazine have created three-car shortlists in a number of categories such as hybrid, saloon and budget to find the best family cars in North America.

Customers who own the cars were asked to give their feedback to find the most popular family cars as part of the decision-making process.

Cars were test-driven to assess performance, reliability, safety and family-friendly features.

The Kia Soul has successfully been chosen in the budget category because of its safety features, attractive style and versatility as well as the low starting price of £10,495, according to the manufacturer.

Praising the commanding seating position and impressive head room in the boxy rear, Parents Magazine wrote: "This funky new hatchback is sure to turn heads — and it’s a worthy choice for young families."

Other nominees in the awards include the Mazda5, which will go up against the Kia Soul in the budget segment, and two US-only Chevrolet models; the Equinox and Traverse.

The Mazda5 was nominated because of the three rows of seating, spacious interior which is ideal for groceries, and the five-speed manual transmission.
