Only 650 units of the new Fiesta S1600 have been produced by Ford, which recently sold all 500 models of a new, sporty Focus in just seven days.
The Fiesta is based on the Zetec-S, but gives a nod to previous sporty Fiesta models from the last 30 years such as the XR2 and RS models.
Speaking about the Fiesta’s sporting heritage, Gill Palmer, Ford of Britain’s Fiesta Product Manager, said: "Since its introduction, Fiesta and sporting pedigree have never been far apart and the latest incarnation of that is S1600, bringing extra motorsport feel to the award-winning Fiesta style and driving quality."
Performance is delivered by a 120PS 1.6-litre petrol or 95PS 1.6-litre TDCi unit. Ford is offering an extra engine upgrade package for drivers who want to maximise performance.
A motorsport-themed body styling kit includes a new front bumper with lower valence panel, longer side skirts, a larger rear spoiler and rear diffuser.
Both the diesel and petrol versions boast alloy wheels, measuring 16" and 17" respectively. Inside, both versions feature leather stitched sports seats, leather trim and motorsport-branded floor mats and scuff plates.
The Ford Fiesta S1600 starts at £16,665 and is available in white or blue body colour. Both colours feature contrasting motorsport stripes.
