Renault announces racing-inspired Twingo

The Renault Twingo Gordini 133 is the first car to be released from the resurrected Gordini line-up, based on cars such as the Corsica rally-winning Renault 8 Gordini from the 1960s.

Boasting the distinctive metallic blue colour and white racing stripes of the Renault 8 Gordini, the new Twingo Gordini 133 hot-hatch boasts a 1.6-litre 133hp petrol engine and enhanced steering and braking.

Based on the Renaultsport 133, the limited edition Twingo Gordini features a sport chassis and 17" wheels to improve handling and responsiveness for both racing and everyday motoring.

Equipment levels are also based on the Renaultsport version with a host of extras added, including climate control, cruise control, speed limiter, ESC and a multimedia system featuring MP3, CD player, Ipod and Bluetooth connectivity, and steering-wheel mounted remote control.

The classic look of the Twingo Gordini 133 is bolstered by Gordini-badging throughout the interior and blue detailing on the door panels, gearlever and gearknob.

Alternatively, a black paint colour is available as an option along with a lower chassis with stiffer springs and dampers, curtain airbags and an electrically-operated panoramic sunroof.

Only 200 models are available to UK customers and the first deliveries of the hot-hatch will arrive in June 2010. The Renault Twingo Gordini 133 is priced at £14,500 on-the-road.

Renault has promised more Gordini versions of its range in future, in honour of Gordini, who developed nearly 20,000 vehicles for Renault over 20 years.
