Set to debut at the New York International Auto Show on 1 April, the four-door saloon will be launched in phases throughout the world in late 2010, with models arriving in UK showrooms in 2011.
No engine details have been announced for the Kia Magentis, the second new Kia car introduced this year after the Kia Sportage SUV was unveiled in Geneva in March.
However, the exterior features Kia’s now distinctive design language, including a tiger face styled front end and sweeping roofline.
The new Magentis is longer, lower and slightly wider than previous versions, giving the car a European stance, according to the team tasked with the design of the saloon.
The Kia Magentis has been designed to appeal to markets across the world, as designer Peter Schreyer explains: "This new model embodies Kia’s confident new design direction. It’s a global car with individual appeal.”
Magentis may not be used in the European market, and Kia has promised a name will be confirmed in the coming months. Traditionally, the Magentis is known as the Kia Optima in the US market. In total, the Magentis will be released in 160 markets worldwide.
Prices for the Magentis will be announced closer to the UK release date in 2011.
