No CommentsPerrys of Aylesbury is supporting a ground breaking education programme and ‘record-breaking’ attempt. The Perrys Dealership has donated a Vauxhall Vivaro van for 12 months to the Bloodhound Project, Britain’s latest attempt on the World Land Speed Record with a 1,000 mph car.
Building a car faster than the speed of sound is not, however, the primary goal of the project. Rather, it is to inspire future generations to take up careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by showcasing these subjects in the most exciting way possible.
The donated van will be used to travel to schools and events throughout the UK to promote the project to as wide an audience as possible. To date the project has over 1000 schools signed up to its education programme.
The driving force behind the Bloodhound Project, Richard Noble explained: “We aim to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists by designing and building our incredible car. I am very pleased that Perrys offered to support us by loaning us a van.”
Ken Savage, Chairman of the Perrys Group, said on hearing about the Bloodhound Project: “I had great respect for what Andy and Richard were trying to achieve. Not only are they aiming to break world records, they still find the time to teach the importance of science at grass roots level. Perrys is delighted to help the project by donating the van to help them inspire young people.”
Richard Noble (project director) and Andy Green (driver) broke the sound barrier in Thrust SSC in 1997 and set the current record of 763 mph. The Bloodhound team will attempt to reach 800 mph in 2010 and 1,000 mph in 2011.
Perrys on Bicester Road represents many of the motor industry’s leading manufacturers including Renault, Ford, SEAT, Fiat and Vauxhall. For further information about Perrys of Aylesbury call 01296 426 162.
